Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. Habitat works in partnership with God and people from all walks of life, regardless of race, religion and background, to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.
Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller in Americus, Georgia. Now, Habitat is a worldwide organization, operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and dozens of other countries. Through the work of Habitat, thousands of low-income families have found new hope in the form of affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity has built more than 400,000 houses, sheltering more than 2 million people worldwide.
Locally, HFHJC was founded in 1992 by a small, but dedicated, group of individuals with the desire to help those in need. Over the years, HFHJC has built homes for over a dozen deserving families in Nicholasville and Wilmore. HFHJC’s goal is to build an average of three houses a year, working to ensure every family in Jessamine County has a place to call “home.”
Habitat for Humanity International's Mission
Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God’s love and can live and grow into all that God intends.
Our Vision
A world where everyone has a safe and decent place to live.
Our Mission
Habiat for Humanity of Jessamine County believes in being a reflection of God's love through partnering with families that need a "hand-up, not a hand-out" to provide simple, decent, affordable homes AND to work with our communities to assist in efforts to grow and nurture familes and individuals.
